First United Methodist is home to a vibrant artistic community.
The following describes just some of the ways you can be involved in the music ministry. Contact Kyle Berry ( if you are interested in joining one of our groups or serving in an artistic way that's not listed here.
The Praise Team is responsible for leading worship in the contemporary service on Sunday mornings. We use a variety of musical styles and instruments such as drums, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, piano, harmonica, percussion, and more. Several vocalists lead the singing and occasionally provide special music for the service. We also occasionally travel to perform for other churches and events.
The Chancel Choir serves as the worship leaders for our traditional service. We provide service music such as preludes and benedictions as well as offering frequent special anthems and leading the congregational singing. Accompanied by piano and/or organ, the choir is made of members from all ages and music ability levels. The choir is also the core of the community choir which sings for special events.
The Handbell Ensemble plays occasionally for the traditional service, bringing unique service music with the sound of ringing bells. We also play for special events and occasions. This group is open to everyone although rudimentary music reading is recommended.
